COMFORT FOOD:
During these cold months especially, food provides us warmth, comfort, and joy. And throughout art history, artists have celebrated that appreciation and love for food in their artwork. In this age of social media, food is still one of things we share and celebrate (and post) the most! Let's share our history, and culture, and tastes! Let's make, and mix, and build a buffet of artwork to celebrate the foods that help us grow, and keep us full, and warm, and healthy, and happy!
This exhibit will be on display at the GROWING TOGETHER: SEED LIBRARY OPEN HOUSE! Saturday, February 28, 10AM - 6PM. Join us for a community celebration of gardening, food, and the coming springtime with all-ages activities and entertainment.
Up to 24 pieces will be selected for display in the gallery. All ages of artists are welcome to submit artwork. Please be mindful of all ages of viewers. The gallery walls are secured behind glass and located just inside the Youth Services area on the first floor. The show will be juried by Rochester Public Library Youth Services staff. Selections will be made based on relevance to the theme, adherence to technical guidelines (below), artistic merit, craftsmanship, originality, and completeness of the application. Artists will be notified via e-mail or phone regarding the display of their artwork.
ELIGIBILITY
All artists must be residents of Olmsted County at the time of submission. All styles and media will be accepted, but work must be sized within 12” wide x 12” high x 1” deep. If they wish, artists may pick up a 12” x 12” surface from the Youth Services desk with which to create their art. All submissions must be original works of art. Entries may be submitted in person or via email for consideration. Accepted entries must be delivered to the library by one week prior to the start date of the exhibition. Physical submissions not selected must be picked up by the start date of the exhibition. Selected artwork that arrives unframed or unmounted will be hung by the best method determined by staff.
