    This event is sponsored by the Friends of the Rochester Public Library.

    Join us in September as Sandy Evans, owner of All in Stitches in Zumbrota, teaches us how to add a couple of new embroidery stitches to our work. Sandy has a life-long relationship with embroidery and other needle arts with much to share, so she may speak of color palettes, how to select fabric for your own collection, and give suggestions on how you can develop your own skills.

    This is a continuing gathering where Slow Stitch enthusiasts can encourage each other and share their work. Fabric, needles, floss, and other supplies will be available. You are also welcome to bring your own needlework supplies.

    This 5 week workshop will explore the grief phases, how to assess grief, what self-care can be done to stay healthy and how to do ongoing grief care.

    Trainer, Rev.  Michael Wuehler BS M.Div. (GC-C), is an ordained minister and a certified grief counselor who is the chaplain and volunteer coordinator for Interim Health Care Hospice.

    For caregivers of children with special needs. This free six-week workshop that teaches strategies for taking better care of yourself while caring for a child with special health or behavioral needs. 

    This workshop helps you:

    • Reduce stress, guilt, anger and depression and improve emotional well-being
    • Manage your time, set goals, and solve problems
    • Master caregiving transitions and make tough decisions
    • Communicate effectively with the child needing care, family members, doctors, and paid helpers
    • Develop greater self-efficacy (confidence in one’s ability to accomplish something)
    • Develop awareness of and use of community resources

Benefits may include stress reduction, increased creativity, heightened energy and improved physical and emotional well-being. Taught by certified Tai Chi Chih instructor. Dress comfortably. Must have had beginning sessions or previous experience.

    Participants will need to sign a liability waiver to participate in the class.

    WHAT PROVISIONS IN THE NEW TAX LAW COULD AFFECT YOU AND YOUR FAMILY?

    The Tax Cuts and Jobs Act took effect in 2018. This $1.5 trillion tax-reduction package fundamentally changes the individual and business tax landscape.

    Some of the tax changes are permanent, while others expire after 2025. Whether you will pay more or less in income taxes depends on a variety of factors unique to your situation. So the more you know about the tax law provisions, the better prepared you will be.

    Are you going to get your share of taxpayer savings?

    • Understand the official new tax reform rules and their impact on your retirement
    • Changes to marginal income tax brackets and the alternative minimum tax
