RPL Seeks high school students for new Teen Library Council
Rochester Public Library (RPL) is seeking seven high school students to serve a 12-month term on RPL’s new Teen Library Council.
The application is now open through August 9, for high school students interested in joining the new Teen Library Council at RPL.
Teen Library Council members are advocates for the value of public libraries, intellectual freedom, literacy, and democratic ideals. A position on the Teen Library Council offers an opportunity for dedicated and enthusiastic individuals to contribute teen perspectives to the Rochester Public Library Board of Trustees & Library staff, while developing skills in community co-design, local government leadership, and advocacy.
“This is a fantastic opportunity for teens interested in learning more about local government leadership and the value of library services to the community,” says Heather Acerro, Head of Youth Services at RPL.
The 12-month term includes a monthly meeting and regular scheduling of meetings with peers to discuss the library, one member will also attend monthly Library Board meetings. These roles allow teens to gain experience in community leadership, learn about local library services and government, and include a paid stipend per meeting and per month for peer connection work.
